About me

After forty years of experience with horses, including teaching riding both astride and sidesaddle, stud work, and exercising and schooling high goal polo ponies, I discovered the Intelligent Horsemanship courses run by Kelly Marks (see Links). In November 2008 I completed the Intelligent Horsemanship Diploma and the Monty Roberts Preliminary Certificate of Horsemanship, and in January 2010 I was invited to become one of the Intelligent Horsemanship Recommended Trainers.

Learning on these courses was like being given a key – or perhaps the light being switched on! Some of the instinctive techniques I had been using successfully for many years were shown to have a logical, scientific foundation, and I was taught how to use the body language by which horses communicate with each other. I came to understand more about the way horses and ponies see their world and how we can fulfil their emotional as well as their physical needs, and at the same time I learned how to avoid confusing our horses with behaviour which is well meant but unhelpful.

My mission now is to enable as many people as possible to gain a deeper understanding of horses and use the same, safe, non-violent and effective ways to work with them.
